From High flying whale to Throne – Step and Pop

338

There are two ways to transition from Whale to Throne: with a step or with a pop.
It’s best to first learn the beginner-friendly step version. Once that feels solid, you can try the pop variation. We illustrate both options here.

The Back Table pose

The movement begins with a transitional pose: from Whale, the flyer bends the knees, straightens the back, and lifts the head, while the base switches grip to hold the flyer’s feet.
This is the so-called “Back table” position, which sets up the transition — whether it’s done with a simple step or a dynamic pop.

Used elements for both variation

Transition pose: back table Regardless of whether you choose the step or the pop variation, the transition always begins from the back table pose. This is the key intermediate position that sets up the movement

I cut out this moment because it is clear here that the base bends one leg (on which the flyer sits) and with the other leg helps the flyer to rise (he can help here with his toes). The arrows show the direction of movement!

The base holds the flyer’s feet firmly to prevent her from falling back when sitting up. Flyer begins to raise her upper body. Base takes out one of his legs and places it on the seat tube of the flyer. Flyer sits on the foot of the base, her upper body is in a vertical position. AkroJoga Slovensko

The video shows that here the base bends his leg when the flyer starts to sit up. This makes it easier for the flyer to sit up.

From Whale to Throne with POP

The base gives the flyer a gentle boost by bending and then extending their legs. At the same time, they place their feet under the flyer’s sitting bones, helping them rise into throne pose. As the flyer arrives and makes contact with the base’s feet, the base slightly bends their legs to soften the landing and make it more comfortable. Once the flyer is seated and balanced, the base slowly extends their legs. This smooth action helps avoid a jarring landing and makes the transition feel light and controlled.

It’s a smooth move that feels like landing on clouds – strong, stable, and kind.
