From Back Bird to Front Bird (Step and Pop)

236

This transition connects two fundamental poses.
At beginner level, it can be done step by step — the base turns the flyer over with three small movements.
More advanced practitioners can try the pop version, where the base gives the flyer a little momentum, allowing them to “fly” from back bird to bird.

The Step Version

The base steps across to the flyer’s hips in a cross-over motion.
The flyer rotates onto the base’s foot, then continues turning until they reach bird pose. Meanwhile, the base brings in the second foot, placing it also at the flyer’s hips to complete the position.

In this variation, the base steps directly to the flyer’s hip on the same side, bringing the flyer into Side Star without using a cross-over step. From there, the base switches feet: he removes the supporting foot and replaces it with the other foot in the same position. The flyer then continues the rotation until they arrive in Bird Pose.

The POP version

At the beginning of the movement, pay close attention to the hand position shown in this video.

As we can see here, the movement begins with a parallel hand grip.
