From Reverse Straddle Throne to Back bird (step and pop)

538

This transition actually consists of several steps. The first movement is the so-called waterfall, where the flyer begins to lean back slowly and with control (not falling), and when the base reaches their shoulders, they catch them. At this point, the flyer unlocks and extends their legs. The base holds the flyer’s shoulders firmly, gives them a small pop with their legs, and repositions their feet higher, placing them on the flyer’s sacrum. This movement could also be done step by step without the pop, but since the base’s feet only need to move a very short distance, it remains a simple transition.

Transition with Pop

This transition is part of a longer sequence with Super Dave and Amanda O’Malley. It is well-executed, making it easy to observe each step in detail.

Transition with Step

A gentle beginner sequence with reverse straddle throne, waterfall, and back bird – ending in a soft and graceful landing.

The Waterfall movement

If we look only at the part from the straddle throne to the transition pose, this movement is often called ‘the waterfall.’ In this transition, the flyer gently leans back and slides down the base’s leg, creating a flowing, downward motion that resembles a waterfall. It’s a beautiful and graceful element that’s worth practicing on its own, as part of a beginner or more advanced flow
