From Reverse Straddle Throne to Star

229

This is a complex transition that includes an intermediate pose between the starting and ending positions. A key element here is the Tittibhasana yoga pose, so it’s worth getting familiar with it first and practicing it on its own. You’ll only be able to perform this transition if the flyer can hold a stable Tittibhasana in the air.

Step by step:

The flyer reaches forward between their wide open, straight legs. The base lowers them just enough so they can reach for each other’s hands. Then, the flyer shifts all their weight into their hands—both the base’s and the flyer’s arms are vertical at this point. This allows the base to slide their feet out from under the flyer’s sit bones.

Next, the base moves their feet forward, and the flyer rotates onto the base’s feet into a shoulder stand position. It’s important that the flyer tilts their pelvis upward—leaning forward with just the upper body isn’t enough. The hips need to rise in order to create the Star pose.

The base supports this motion by bending their knees as the flyer’s weight shifts onto their feet. Once the flyer’s pelvis is above the base’s head, the base straightens their legs—and that’s how the Star pose is achieved.

It’s worth watching the video several times and studying the movements of both the flyer and the base. If needed, use a thick mat or ask a spotter to assist for extra safety.
