Bird flips, warm up

383

In the basic bird pose, the base’s feet provide the horizontal surface that allows the flyer to maintain a straight body. However, there are other variations where the base plays with the position of their feet and the flyer’s balance. The base can tilt the flyer forward or backward while keeping the balance, ensuring the flyer doesn’t fall. Sometimes, the flyer balances only on the base’s toe tips. Throughout the process, the flyer keeps their body straight and trusts the base. If you feel unsure, ask for a spotter’s assistance! Safety is the most important!

As part of the warm-up, the base bends and straightens their legs in the bird pose (this is the push-up), and also rotates the flyer to the right and left. The flyer must keep their body straight like a plank throughout the entire exercise.

Daniel Scott: These exercises – push up, swivel, tilt – which we can do in bird pose, help to stabilize the movement of the base and strengthen the core muscles of the flyer.
